Building Strength and Resilience Together
Empower your leaders to facilitate youth healing groups anytime, anywhere
The Trauma Healing Institute at American Bible Society and Compassion International teamed up to create a new small group experience focusing on increasing emotional well-being in youth. This pilot program is designed to test the Rise Up content, training model, and leaders’ use of the app. Your feedback as a leader, as well as gathering feedback from youth participants, is vital to shaping the final version of the app and its programming.

Over the course of eight sessions, youth will work together to build a safe, caring community where they will explore biblical truths that can help them find peace, strength, and hope to arise and overcome difficulty.
Rise Up is an adaptation specifically for youth from THI’s clinically proven Life Hurts, Love Heals program and from UNSTUCK: A Guide for Living in Uncertain Times. The app features a streamlined video-based training experience and all of the material you need to lead a group.
Who is Rise Up for?
The intended audience for Rise Up is youth ages 13 and older. These groups help them gain awareness and skills needed to navigate life’s difficulties and inspire a renewed sense of well-being. We want Rise Up participants to continue their lives with renewed trust in God, healthy relationships with others, and restored hope and courage as they understand who they are in His eyes.
How does Rise Up work?
Because true healing takes place in a community rather than in isolation, Rise Up is designed to connect young people in small groups, where the healing process can begin. These groups help participants gain awareness and skills needed to navigate life’s difficulties and inspire a renewed sense of well-being.
In this setting, the group experiences a journey where it is okay to ask life’s difficult questions, tell their stories to someone who cares, develop life skills, and above all–allows Jesus to come near with His healing touch.

We are asking for you to co-lead one Rise Up group with 4-15 participants, aged 13 and older. There are 8 sessions and the group takes approximately 12 hours in total. There is a leader survey and a survey for participants to fill out before they begin the group and after they finish.

Complete the training in the app
The training contains seven modules, quizzes, and takes about 2.5 hours. It does not have to be completed all at once, but it does need to be completed within 3 days of when you begin, or else you will need to start over.
Create a group in the app
Set up your first group in the app by choosing a translation of Rise Up and submitting basic details about your group
Report your Rise Up pilot group
THI requires Rise Up leaders to report the completion of their small group. This helps us know where Rise Up groups are happening, demonstrate impact of the program, and is a critical component to funding. We've made reporting easy by building the functionality into the app.
Help with the app
Please review the THI Mobile App demo videos. These demo videos feature the adult app-based program, Anchored in Hope. However, Rise Up functions similarly to Anchored in Hope.
